BCTA Round Robin Events

Change is good…

Our tennis community has grown and evolved over the 5 years since we began having Round Robin events on Sunday evenings. The events have always been widely popular and well attended. This year we have noticed that we have more players in some levels and less in others and we need to make some adjustments. So we want to make it fun and fair for everyone. We have developed this page so that players will know what events to sign up for and what to expect.

To help players know which event to attend, the following guidelines will apply.

Beginners

To play in the beginners events, a player must be “match ready”. The beginner round robin experience is designed to provide experience in match play. Therefore, a player must be able to keep score, to serve and keep the ball in play. Players should understand tennis rules and terms. Players should have some prior lessons or video instruction along with practical practice before attending the beginner event. A coach/advanced player will be present to provide advice and tips to beginner players. Intermediate players may also play as long as they are willing to work with and play to the pace of the beginners.

Intermediate

In the intermediate events, players should be experienced in match play and have a USTA NTRP rating of 3.0-3.5 or equivalent. Players can self-rate through the USTA site. No USTA membership is required but you must create an account. If self-rating is not an option, contact the event coordinator for assistance.

Advanced

Advanced events are designed for those with years of experience and a USTA NTRP rating of 4.0 & up. A player can be invited/approved by the coordinator if no rating is available. High level 3.5 players may be allowed to play up when players are needed.

Special Events

The special events will be for all levels and will be a fun, social event with special prizes, refreshments and different games/formats.

Format for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Events

The way we play the RR events will also change to make the event more fun and fair.

Instead of playing with the same player, players will rotate partners each round. The first round partners will be picked at random and from then on, one player will stay and the other player will rotate to the next court. Players will keep track of all games won with each partner and prizes will be awarded to the two players with the most games won at the end of the event. More details will be provided at the events.

Age

As in the past, high schoolers are allowed to play in Round Robin events as long as they meet the level requirements or have been invited/approved by the coordinator. Your coach can help you determine the level to play at. Youngsters in grades 8 and below are not allowed to play in the Adult Round Robin events.
